Judging Others

KINDRED
Judging Others

Luke 6:36-38

Gospel READING:

Jesus said to his disciples: "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. "Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven. Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you."

Gospel Reflection:

In Luke 6:36-38, Jesus teaches about compassion, judgment, and generosity. He begins by instructing his disciples to be merciful, just as their Father in heaven is merciful. This call to mercy echoes throughout Jesus' teachings, emphasizing the importance of showing compassion and forgiveness to others.

Jesus then warns against a judgmental attitude, highlighting the hypocrisy of pointing out the faults of others while ignoring our own. He encourages us to first address our own shortcomings before attempting to help others.

In the final verses, Jesus speaks about giving and receiving. He teaches that the measure we use in giving will be the measure used to give back to us. This principle underscores the importance of generosity and the blessings that come from giving freely and cheerfully.

As we reflect on this passage, we are reminded of the profound depth of God's mercy and the call for us to reflect that mercy in our own lives. It challenges us to examine our own attitudes towards others and to strive for a heart of compassion and forgiveness, rather than judgment and condemnation.

Moreover, Jesus' words about giving encourage one to be generous in all aspects of life. Whether it be with our time, resources, or love, we are called to give freely and generously, trusting that God will provide abundantly in return.

This passage is a reminder that living out the gospel requires more than just following a set of rules; it requires a transformation of the heart. May we all strive to embody the mercy, compassion, and generosity that Jesus teaches, knowing that in doing so, we reflect the love of our Heavenly Father to the world.
