Rest for the Weary Soul

KINDRED Daily Gospel Reflection
Gospel Reading: Matthew 11:28–30
Jesus said to the crowds:
"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."
Gospel Reflection: “Rest for the Weary Soul”
These words of Jesus are among the most tender in the Gospel: “Come to me… and I will give you rest.” They are spoken not to the strong and successful, but to the tired, the overburdened, the discouraged.
We often carry more than we are meant to bear alone: worries about family, work pressures, financial strain, unseen grief, hidden shame, spiritual fatigue. We may even imagine that God expects us to “hold it all together” in His name.
But Jesus offers something different: shared burden. His “yoke” is an image of partnership — two animals linked together sharing the weight. When we take His yoke, we do not walk alone; we walk with Him.
Advent can become another season of hurry and pressure. Today’s Gospel invites you to step out of that pace for a moment and rest your soul in Christ. Not by doing more, but by bringing more of yourself to Him — exactly as you are.
Let Him be the one to carry what you cannot.
One Thing To Do Today:
Close your eyes for a minute and quietly tell Jesus: “This is what is weighing on me today…” Hand it to Him, and ask simply: “Lord, give me Your rest.”
Closing Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I am tired and burdened. I come to You just as I am. Place Your gentle yoke upon my shoulders and teach my heart to trust You. Give rest to my soul. Amen.
