Faith Like the Centurion’s

KINDRED Daily Gospel Reflection
Gospel Reading: Matthew 8:5–11
When Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him and appealed, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully.” Jesus said to him, “I will come and cure him.” But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed. For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come here,’ and he comes.” When Jesus heard this, He was amazed and said to those following Him, “Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith.”
Gospel Reflection: “Faith Like the Centurion’s”
In this Gospel we meet a man of authority — a centurion — who stands before Christ neither boasting nor demanding; he stands in humility and trust. He does not claim righteousness, but simply faith: “Lord, only speak the word.”
That humility penetrates the heart of discipleship. Too often, we measure faith by what we do — our efforts, our schedule, our holy plans. But here we see faith measured in trust and surrender. The centurion did nothing impressive — he didn’t parade his virtues. He simply believed that when Jesus speaks, his word is enough.
Imagine applying that same faith to your own life. Not a faith burdened by performance, but a faith released from control. When life feels overwhelming — when sickness, anxiety, or uncertainty knocks at your door — you don’t need the perfect prayer, the greatest sacrifice, or the most eloquent plea. You need a heart that says simply: “Speak, Lord.”
Let the centurion’s faith challenge you today. Let it humble and free you. For God isn’t looking for our perfection, but our trust.
One Thing To Do Today:
Sit quietly and say to Jesus, from the heart: “Lord, I trust — only speak the word.” Then surrender a worry or burden to Him and rest in His presence.
Closing Prayer:
Lord Jesus, grant me a faith like that of the centurion — humble, trusting, and confident in Your Word. Speak into my need, and heal me by Your mercy. Amen.
