The Grace of Being Childlike

KINDRED Daily Gospel Reflection
Gospel Reading: Luke 10:21–24
Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said:
“I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned, you have revealed them to the childlike… Turning to the disciples in private He said, ‘Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.’”
Gospel Reflection: “The Grace of Being Childlike”
Today we glimpse something beautiful and rare in the Gospels: Jesus rejoices. He delights in the Father’s way — that God reveals His mysteries not to the proud or the powerful, but to the childlike.
To be “childlike” does not mean childish. It means receptive, humble, open-hearted — the kind of faith that listens more than it argues, trusts more than it analyzes, and welcomes God with simplicity rather than suspicion.
In a world that prizes expertise, control, and certainty, Jesus teaches something countercultural:
The deepest truths are received, not mastered.
The disciples are blessed not because of their brilliance, but because they are willing to see, to hear, and to believe. Their eyes recognize grace; their hearts recognize God at work.
Jesus’ words to them — “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see” — are meant for you as well. Every time you perceive God’s presence in prayer, Scripture, the sacraments, or in moments of grace throughout your day, you share in this blessing.
This Gospel gently challenges us to let go of spiritual pride, cynicism, and the pressures we place on ourselves to “figure it all out.” Faith grows not through calculation, but through surrender; not through achievement, but through openness.
Today, Jesus invites you to rediscover a childlike heart — not naïve, but trusting; not fragile, but receptive; not simplistic, but uncluttered.
One Thing To Do Today:
Pray simply and honestly, like a child: “Father, I trust You. Teach me to see You today.”
Closing Prayer:
Father, open my heart to the simplicity and humility that welcome Your grace. Make me childlike in trust, joyful in surrender, and ready to see Your presence in my day. Amen.
