Gospel Reading: Matthew 7:21, 24–27

Jesus said to his disciples:

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven.

Everyone who listens to these words of Mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock.

And everyone who listens to these words of Mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand.”

Gospel Reflection: “Built on the Rock”

In today’s Gospel, Jesus draws a stark contrast between two houses — one built on rock, one on sand. The difference between them is not the weather they face, but the foundation beneath them. Storms come to both. Winds batter both. Floods rise around both. Yet only one stands firm.

Jesus’ point is simple: discipleship is not measured by what we say but by what we choose. To call Him “Lord” with our lips is not enough. True faith is revealed in a life anchored to His word.

This is an Advent invitation to look honestly at your foundation. Where does your security come from? Where do you place your hope? What shapes your decisions? We often attempt to build our lives on things that shift — the approval of others, ambition, comfort, productivity, financial stability, or the illusion of control. These are sands that cannot withstand the storms of life.

To build on the rock is to let Christ’s teaching shape everything: how we forgive, how we speak, how we serve, how we love, how we suffer. This kind of foundation is not built in a moment; it is built in the quiet faithfulness of everyday choices.

Jesus is not asking for perfection. He is asking for surrender — a willingness to align your life with His, to trust His wisdom more than your own, to let His word become the ground you stand on.

And when you do, you discover something remarkable: storms may still come, but fear does not reign. The house stands, because Christ Himself is the rock beneath it.

One Thing To Do Today:

Identify one area of your life where you’ve been “building on sand” — relying on something uncertain. Surrender that area to Jesus and ask Him to help you rebuild on His word.

Closing Prayer:

Lord Jesus, be the rock beneath my feet. Strengthen my faith, correct my steps, and help me build my life on Your word. When storms arise, keep me steady in Your love. Amen.
